Just because an individual might smoke a joint after work does not necessarily mean they are consuming cannabis recreationally. The ability to de-stress, relieve tension, and sleep deeply are crucial for maintaining health and wellbeing. If, by reducing the stress you are increasing health, then what you are doing to reduce stress is not a recreation, a hobby, or a leisurely pastime. It is a method of prevention. A cure before the onset.

Working 9-5, fighting traffic, tending to family, and attempting to have a balanced social life can take its toll. Most people need a way to find relief after a long day. Some choose to have a beer or a glass of wine, others go for a run. Others may choose less healthful ways to cope: such as binge drinking, eating junk food, or escaping through harmful drugs.
If people need to unwind at the end of the day, or during their free time, the best option would be to do it in a positive and therapeutic way that causes the least amount of bodily harm as possible.
Cannabis serves this purpose wonderfully. Not only does it have numerous healing properties that can improve the lives of the sick, but in the appropriate amount it can also allow people to shake their stress, and eat well. These benefits, on their own, can improve the strength of the immune system significantly. This allows people to live their busy lives without catching frequent colds, succumbing to exhaustion, or accumulating stress until it manifests into something serious.
Don’t Forget Moderation
Of course, it is always important to exercise moderation when it comes to anything. Eating too much food is extremely dangerous since obesity is one of the leading causes of preventable death in the United States. Too much of anything can be deadly, but we don’t call comfort food “recreational eating”. And we don’t call casual wine drinkers alcoholics. So why should we demonize the growing population of people who choose to consume cannabis as their method of winding down?
Let’s not reduce cannabis to a binary system. Because cannabis is such a unique plant with so many different ways of interacting and restoring the human body, it must be met with a perspective equally as unique and all-encompassing.
